New Marsden Point service centre is an investment in the future of Northland

09 June 2021

The Northland region has played a significant role in the success of New Zealand's primary sector, and we want this to continue long into the future.

Ballance Agri-Nutrients is one of New Zealand’s oldest and largest farmer owned co-operatives with a rich heritage.

“Our values, and history, of supporting productivity, employment and caring for the people, land and animals are why we have built a brand-new service centre at Marsden Point, Ruakaka”, says Mark Wynne, Ballance CEO

“One of the many advantages of the new site in Ruakaka is that we are able to take shipping loads directly from the port, reducing the number of trucks on the road from Tauranga and Kapuni to Northland. We are future-proofing our service.”

Ballance has a four-year staged investment plan for Northland, which includes the closure of a hub at Port Road and replacing it with a new distribution centre in 223 Kioreroa Road.

The premises at 223 Kioreroa Road has been used as a transport hub for a logistics company, it will be converted over the next 18 months into a fully-enclosed and ventilated blending and bagging facility to service Northland's growing agricultural sector, particularly the fast-evolving horticulture industry.

“We recently opened Te Kopuru Self Service Silo, providing 24-hour service in a remote area near Dargaville.

“Together, these three sites (Marsden, Kioreroa and Te Kopuru), will become the central distribution hub for Northland, making it even easier for our customers to get product”, says Mark.

Murray Read, CEO Northland Inc, says the agricultural sector forms an crucial part of Te Tai Tokerau economy so we acknowledge the important work that Ballance do.

“It is a privilege to be involved and we look forward to seeing the continued positive impact Ballance will have on our region.”

Ballance is supporting Northland farmers and growers to care for their land, animals and the environment by providing tools, services and products that help them manage their nutrients.

The Marsden Point store at 18 Allis Bloy Place, Ruakaka, will be open for business mid-June.
