On October 22nd 2016 Waikato Regional Council notified Plan Change 1 – Healthy Rivers.
The Plan Change starts what is intended to be an 80-year journey to achieve a 100% improvement in water quality for the Waikato and Waipa Rivers. The Waikato community has consistently identified water quality as the top issue for the region over the past two decades.
Ballance understands that changes in the regulatory environment cause concern for our farmer shareholders, and that you wish to have support through these processes from your fertiliser cooperative.
Ballance consistently play an active role in the planning process. We seek to work collaboratively with farmer groups and across the primary sector including DairyNZ, Beef & Lamb, FAR, Federated Farmers, milk companies and others.
We are making a submission on this plan change and will advocate for;
- Ensuring science informs & shapes the debate
- Reducing complexity
- Agreement with farmers reaching the Good Management Practices standards
- Reducing frequency of reporting / auditing
- Sensible and achievable implementation timeframes
- Against the “locking of land use” as of the notification date
In addition to our local Nutrient Specialists, the Ballance Farm Sustainability Services Team is a dedicated team working in the environmental area. The team offers nutrient budgeting and Farm Environment Plan services and works closely with the Regional Council implementation teams and primary industry groups. The team can be contacted at firstname.lastname@example.org or on 0800 222 090.
