Mark Wynne

Chief Executive Officer

Chief Executive Mark Wynne joined Ballance in late September 2014, and has extensive experience in agribusiness, including 20 years in the dairy industry, eight of them in senior roles within Fonterra. He was previously President South Asia for Kimberly-Clark for five years, growing the United States multinational’s market share with brands like Kleenex and Huggies.

Mark has led very successful teams in highly competitive global businesses like Kimberly-Clark, turning over of US$1.4 billion in his region. He has a respected international track record for building brands and in managing mergers and acquisitions.

He has significant experience in co-operatives through his international career with Fonterra. He also has an understanding of farming, holding a Bachelor of Agricultural Sciences from Massey University, majoring in farm management and marketing.

Mark is passionate about growth, innovation and talent. He has invested in and advised innovative New Zealand export oriented growth companies and holds a number of Board Directorships.


Richard Hopkins

Chief Financial Officer

Richard Hopkins was promoted into the role of Chief Financial Officer in August 2013, and is responsible for the financial affairs of the co-operative and has taken over responsibility for Ballance’s Information Systems from February 2015.

Richard joined Ballance as Business Development Manager in January 2011, and during his time in that role he made a strong contribution to the company’s performance. This included the acquisitions of SealesWinslow and Farmworks Systems (Aghub).  Richard acts as Director of each of the Group’s subsidiary Boards. 

Prior to joining the co-operative Richard was the Director of Corporate Finance at Westpac Institutional Bank.  Previous roles also include Director of Credit Suisse’s Global Energy Group based in London, and Analyst for HSBC Investment Bank.

Richard holds a Masters in Business Administration and Finance, and BSc (Honours) Chemistry.


Greg Delaney

General Manager Supply Chain

As General Manager Supply Chain Greg Delaney has overall responsibility for the company's supply chain spanning procurement, distribution, planning, logistics and supply chain development.  He also oversees the company’s health, safety, environment and quality programmes.

Greg joined Ballance in 2002, taking up the role of Service Centre Manager at Morrinsville. Soon after, Greg's responsibilities grew to include management of the North Island store expansion programme, during which he successfully established a company presence in the Taranaki/Lower North Island area, opening service centres in Waingawa, Feilding, Stratford and Hastings. In addition to his experience in distribution and logistics, during his time at Ballance Greg has also been involved in a number of developments in a project management capacity.

Following on from his appointment as General Manager Distribution and Logistics in 2008, Greg’s role expanded to include responsibility for fertiliser operations in 2012.

Prior to his employment with Ballance Greg had a career in the forestry industry, and was Auckland region manager of national waste company EnviroWaste.

Greg holds a Bachelor of Management Studies with Honours from Waikato University.


Jack Herder

General Manager
Supply

Jack Herder joined Ballance in 1997, taking up the role of manager for shipping and supply. He brought with him eleven years of experience in supply chain management, all of which had been gained with Fernz Corporation Ltd, where his responsibilities encompassed shipping and bulk raw material supply to fertiliser manufacturers.

Jack's involvement with the fertiliser industry began in 1973, when he worked for Kiwi Fertiliser Ltd, today part of Ballance.

Today, he is responsible for managing raw materials contracts with international suppliers, overseeing relationships with MAF, Customs, stevedores, port companies and transport operators.



John Maxwell

General Manager Operations

John Maxwell joined Ballance in 1987, at the gas treatment plant which was part of the ammonia urea complex, in the technical department.  He held several roles in the Kapuni organisation, leading to Site Manager in 2006.

John holds a Bachelor of Science, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Technology, and has completed various business papers.

In 2013 John was appointed General Manager Petrochemicals and Super Air, prior to his role expanding to include all fertiliser operations in 2015.

As General Manager Operations John’s responsibilities cover the two superphosphate manufacturing plants, the ammonia urea plant, and the company’s aerial topdressing company Super Air.


Edith Sykes

General Manager People and Capability

Edith Sykes was appointed to the role of General Manager People and Capability in 2015 following three years as Human Resources Manager for Ballance.

During her time at Ballance she has made a strong contribution to building a high performance culture, enhancing employee engagement levels and building leadership capability across the organisation, with a number of focussed strategic priorities. 

Prior to joining the co-operative Edith has held Human Resource leadership roles spanning manufacturing, health and financial services industries across a diverse range of global and local organisations including Cadbury/Kraft Foods, SCA, Fletcher Forests, Tegel Foods (Heinz Watties), Bay Milk Products and Tower Corp.

Edith holds a Bachelor of Business Studies from Massey University. 



Campbell Parker

General Manager Sales

Campbell Parker joined Ballance in October 2015 as General Manager Sales.  His responsibilities include leading and motivating the Nutrient Specialists across New Zealand who interact with farmers on a daily basis, the retail partnerships with Merchants, and the Science Extension team who translate science into practical on farm advice on fertiliser and nutrient management.

Campbell joined Ballance following a successful banking career with BNZ, initially as an Agribusiness banker and then through various senior leadership roles including leading the successful Partners Network nationally. He is an experienced executive that brings a strong depth of sales leadership experience to Ballance, combined with a real passion for the future success of agriculture in New Zealand.

Campbell has a Bachelor of Agribusiness (Rural Valuation and Farm Management) from Massey University.


Chris Brown

Chief Operating Officer - SealesWinslow

Chris Brown joined Ballance in 2011, initially as the Merger and Acquisition Manager responsible for the formation of SealesWinslow. As Chief Operating Officer he leads all functions of SealesWinslow operations including its three mills, national sales, quality, and product development. 

Chris has a wide range of experience in sales, marketing and operations, gained through senior roles with companies including New Zealand Herald, Red Arrow Distribution and Progressive Enterprises. 

Chris has a Bachelor of Business and believes in developing his team to their utmost potential.
